SPOKANE, Wash. — Volunteers are taking to the streets of downtown Spokane this week for Spring Clean Week, preparing the city for the thousands of participants and spectators expected at Bloomsday this Sunday.
The annual cleanup initiative runs from April 28th to May 2nd.
Volunteers help pick up litter, remove graffiti and ultimately give downtown Spokane an extra shine before the city hosts the 49th running of the iconic race.
“You get beautify downtown,” said Samuel Brown, a member of the Clean Team. “You get all these people to come down here and they want to come back because it’s not filthy, it’s not dirty. It’s a welcoming place.”
The Downtown Spokane Partnership has organized the volunteer effort with pickup sessions from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., making it easy for local workers and residents to participate during their lunch breaks.
Those interested in volunteering for Spring Clean Week can join the effort by connecting with the Downtown Spokane Partnership for supplies and assignments.
