SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane City Council voted to allocate over $1 million to safety improvement projects in West Central neighborhood.
During Monday night’s meeting, City Council voted unanimously to approve $1.25 million to enhance safety along a segment of Maxwell Avenue.
The target section is a stretch of Maxwell, between Walnut Street and Pettet Drive, along the south side of AM Cannon Park.
Neighbors said cars often speed down the road, making the crosswalk unsafe for children and families trying to get to the park.
The funding will cover the costs of new bike lanes, upgrading bus stops and making the cross walk more visible and prominent.
About 80% of the project would be funded by a state grant, with the remainder coming from arterial street funding.
