AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — Have you thought about how fast a fire could spread in your home? The Airway Heights Fire Department want you to have all the information you need to stay safe.
On April 22, AHFD will host a live, in-person demonstration about the critical importance of fire sprinklers.
In a specially equipped trailer, fire crews will set two identically furnished rooms on fire, one with sprinklers and the other without.
“We want people to understand the speed at which fire grows and develops. It can often be much faster than they can get out of their house,” said AHFD Fire Marshal Mike Makela. “Sprinklers activate very quickly. People will be able to see from the demonstration how long it tames from the fire’s inception to the time the sprinkler activates. They will see how little fire damage occurs because of it,” he said.
The educational event will be co-hosted by the National Fire Sprinkler Association.
The demonstration will begin at 6 p.m. and take place at 1149 S. Garfield Road.
