CHENEY, Wash. — A Cheney man has been arrested in Portland, Oregon for a dozen felony charges related to the sexual abuse of a child.
According to the Cheney Police Department, detectives started an investigation into 38-year-old Daniel Charles Collins in November of 2021 for child sex abuse.
When Collins became aware of the investigation, he fled the area before police could take him into custody.
Cheney Police said it continued investigating Collins and secured a warrant for Collins in April of 2023. The warrant was for multiple counts of child sex abuse that allegedly happened in Cheney.
Detectives asked for the U.S. Marshals’ help to find Collins after learning he left the state.
Collins was arrested on February 12, 2025, in Portland, Oregon. Cheney Police said Collins was living a transient lifestyle in the area.
Collins was taken into custody as a fugitive. He was extradited to Washington and booked into Spokane County Jail on April 17, 2025.
Collins has been charged with multiple counts of child molestation, sexual exploitation of a minor, rape of a child, commercial sex abuse of a minor, possession of child sex abuse material, incest and other charges.
Collins is being held at the Spokane County Jail on a $1 million bond.
