SPOKANE, Wash. — A legacy newspaper in Spokane is changing ownership ending a 132-year run by the founding family.
The Spokesman-Review announced the change Tuesday saying a local non-profit founded by Spokesman Executive Editor Rob Curley would be taking over from the Cowles family.
The paper said how the public receives the paper will not change. They will continue with six print editions and digital versions behind a paywall a week.
The non-profit, Comma community journalism lab, will seek donations from individuals and major local organizations.
The Spokesman says the change will help the paper shift from a reliance on advertising and subscription revenue.
