OLYMPIA, Wash. — The federal government has denied the state of Washington’s request for major disaster relief due to storms that impacted the westside in November.
FEMA announced Friday former Governer Jay Inslee’s request did not meet the necessary requirements under the Stafford Act, which authorizes FEMA to provide aid.
The storms plagued the westside of the state damaging several counties including King, Walla Walla, and Snohomish. The bomb cyclone caused landslides, severe storms, and flooding with an estimated $34 million in damage.
Current Washington Governor Bob Ferguson refutes FEMA’s decision saying its application met all the necessary criteria and the state will be appealing.
