SPOKANE, Wash. — Washington residents could see an increase to their electric rates starting this summer.
Avista Corp. filed a request with the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission to increase electric rates by $15.3 million, or 2.1%, effective July 1, 2025.
The proposed adjustment aims to recover deferred power supply costs tracked in the company’s Energy Recovery Mechanism (ERM).
According to Avista, if approved, customers using an average of 945 kilowatt hours per month would see their monthly bills change from $120.86 to 123.41, an increase of $2.55 per month, or approximately 2.1%.
Currently, Avista is recovering $19.0 million in ERM-related expenses, which will end on July 1, 2025.
The proposed filing seeks to recover the remaining balance, including interest, over 12 months.
