SPOKANE, Wash. — A downtown Spokane restaurant is closing this month after 25 years.
Soulful Soups and Spirits Lounge will shut its doors on April 17.
“It’s the saddest thing,” said Lauren D’Arienzo, owner of Soulful Soups & Spirits Lounge. “My only intention was to keep it here forever and ever and ever. That’s just not going to be the case.”
The restaurant on North Howard Street is known for serving fresh, homemade soups Monday through Friday.
D’Arienzo tried for years to find someone to take over the business. However, she says the building’s new owner won’t renew their lease.
In a Facebook post, the owners said their lease ends in November with no chance for extension.
“We’ve been given the opportunity to leave before the summer season and feel it is best to take it,” the restaurant stated.
The closure adds to many empty storefronts in the area.
“Look at my street right now, Wild Dogs is closed, the Pho place is closed, behind me we had the food truck establishment, that’s closed, the Vault’s closed,” D’Arienzo said. “This is going to be a blank block.”
