Spokane, WA – The way you pay for parking in Spokane will look different the next time you head to a concert or a game. The city has recently introduced new parking kiosks on the North Bank, replacing outdated parking meters that have been in place for decades.
The new kiosks are located on all blocks in the North Bank area that require payment, including spots near popular venues such as the Spokane Arena, Spokane Civic Theatre, The Podium, and One Spokane Stadium. These kiosks are also available for visitors parking near businesses in the area.
The old parking meters, which date back to the 1980s, have been replaced with solar-powered kiosks that take up less space and offer more payment options for customers. Spokane’s Director of Code Enforcement and Parking Services, Luis Garcia, highlighted the increased convenience of the new system, noting that users can now pay using credit cards and touchless options in addition to the previous coin and mobile app methods.
“It’s efficient, it’s environmentally friendly, they take up less space on the blockface and hopefully just give a visual aesthetic improvement to that area.”
While the new kiosks offer a more modern and efficient payment experience, the cost of parking will remain unchanged. The city also emphasized that the revenue generated from parking fees will be reinvested into the surrounding area, helping to fund improvements like enhanced lighting and public safety.
The city hopes the updated parking system will help improve turnover for local businesses, encouraging more visitors to the area. As people become familiar with the new process, signage will be posted to guide them through the transition and ensure a smoother experience.
The changes are part of a broader effort by the city to improve the downtown experience for both residents and visitors.
