SPOKANE, Wash. — Around 50 employees at the Spokane National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) are being laid off.
NIOSH made the announcement Tuesday that the facility will be shut down as of June 30.
All managers at the Spokane branch were let go Tuesday.
The Spokane facility is one of the only research facilities outside of universities studying miner safety.
The institute’s work also includes researching underground explosions, hearing loss and black lung.
