Avalanche warnings are currently in effect for multiple mountain regions in North Idaho.
According to the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center (IPAC), the avalanche danger is high for the Selkirk Mountains, West Cabinet Mountains, East Cabinet Mountains and the Silver Valley and Bitterroot Mountains.
IPAC says natural and human triggered avalanches are very likely and traveling in these areas is not recommended.
IPAC says significant snowfall combined with strong winds led to 10-20 inches of additional snow in the mountains above 4,000 feet over the past 24 hours.
The weak layers in the upper snowpack are increasing the risk of large, easily triggered avalanches.
