BOISE, Idaho – Accused killer Bryan Kohberger bought a Ka-Bar knife with a sheath and sharpener on Amazon eight months before a similar knife sheath was found at the scene of a quadruple murder.
Kohberger is awaiting trial for the murders of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Ethan Chapin and Xana Kernodle. The four University of Idaho students were stabbed to death in an off-campus home on November 22, 2022.
The murder weapon has not been found, but investigators found a knife sheath next to one of the victims. Police say DNA on the knife sheath matches Kohberger.
Leading up to the trial later this year, prosecutors and the defense are filing motions with the court, arguing about what evidence should be admitted.
A motion filed this week refers to activity on Kohberger’s Amazon account.
Prosecutors reference a search warrant police obtained to seize Kohberger’s “customer click activity pertaining to knifes and accessories” from Amazon.
Later in the document, prosecutors write that the search was limited to March 20, 2022 to March 30, 2020 and say that was the “time it was known Bryan Kohberger purchased a Ka-Bar knife with sheath and sharpener from Amazon.com.”
The defense has argued that the basis for the click history search was too broad and not relevant.
A judge will hear motions on this coming up in April.
Kohberger’s trial is set for August in Boise.
