SPOKANE, Wash. — Are you looking to do something fun and free with the kids during Spring Break? The City of Spokane says come check out what happens to the items you throw away!
The city’s Solid Waste Disposal Department is hosting multiple free public tours at the Waste to Energy Facility on South Geiger Boulevard in Spokane.
Visitors will learn how garbage moves from the tipping floor to the boiler to convert it into electricity powering around 13,000 homes.
Tours are available on Wednesday, April 9 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. as well as Thursday, April 10 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The city says the tour is appropriate for adults and children 6 years and older. Babies and toddlers are not allowed on the tour.
Anyone on the tour must be able to wear personal protective equipment, including head, eye and ear protection provided by the tour guide. You have to wear close-toed shoes and dress for the weather on the tour.
