CHENEY, Wash. — The chief of Cheney Police Department retired on Thursday after over a decade with the department.
CPD announced Chief Richard Beghtol’s retirement in a Facebook post on February 27.
In the post, the department said his retirement was “effective immediately due to declining health.”
Beghtol joined CPD in 2012 after working with Washington State Patrol and Eastern Washington University Police Department.
“Chief Beghtol has left an indelible mark on the men and women of the Cheney Police Department. His commitment to our community and dedication to public safety will be remembered fondly. We wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement. Thank you, Chief Beghtol, for your service and leadership. You will be missed,” read the Facebook post.
Beghtol served as chief since 2022.
