WASHINGTON STATE — The Department of Health (DOH) is now processing requests to change gender designations on birth certificates within three business days.
According to the DOH, applicants are advised to allow up to two weeks for delivery and mail time for the ordered certificates.
DOH said those who submitted an application with a processing fee, the date their check or money order is cashed marks the official receipt of the request, helping to estimate the remaining processing time.
“Very proud to announce the Department of Health will now process all requests to change gender designation on birth certificates within three business days,” said Bob Ferguson, Washington State Governor. “Previously, there was as much as a 10 month wait.”
While the department is committed to timely processing, it noted that the time it takes to process and mail requests may vary depending on staffing availability and mail delivery schedules.
