SPOKANE, Wash – A free event in Spokane Wednesday night will discuss the effects of marijuana on the mental health of young people.
Kellen Cares is hosting the event at North Central High School.
The organization is named for Kellen Erickson, a Spokane teenager who died by suicide in 2020.
Kellen’s parents are committed to improving the health of young men and boys and increasing awareness about mental health, including the impacts of marijuana, alcohol and tobacco on young people.
The event Wednesday features Dr. Jason Kilmer, a professor at the University of Washington.
Dr. Kilmer will discuss research about the impact of marijuana on a young person’s brain, perceptions and misperceptions about marijuana use and how those things impact mental health.
Kellen Cares encourages young people and parents to attend, along with educators and anyone passionate about supporting young people.
The event is from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night at North Central High School.
