SPOKANE, Wash. — A police officer shot a man in Spokane’s East Central neighborhood on Sunday afternoon, according to Spokane Police Department.
Around 12:00 p.m. on February 9, SPD responded to the Hart Terrace Apartments near 11th Avenue and Ray Street for a crime check on reported “suspicious activity.”
When they arrived, officers found a car with people inside and ran the license plate number. The number showed the owner of the car had an outstanding warrant.
Officers attempted to arrest the owner, who was sitting inside the car, and an “altercation escalated.”
According to SPD, during the struggle to detain the owner, an officer shot him in the apartment complex’s parking lot.
Officers then arrested the man and provided emergency medical care before he was transferred to the hospital for further treatment.
SPD said preliminary information showed the man who was shot was armed with a gun.
Washington State Patrol is investigating the shooting.
