SPOKANE, Wash. — Local healthcare organizations are reassuring Spokanites that healthcare services are still available, despite some of the Trump Administration’s recent actions.
At the end of January, several of the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) website pages and datasets were taken down, following President Trump’s executive orders.
Some of the pages initially removed included those on HIV and STDs.
A few days later and many of the pages have been restored, some with memos at the top reading, ‘CDC’s website is being modified to comply with President Trump’s executive orders.’
Still, some pages, such as those related to LGBTQ+ youth remain unavailable as of Tuesday night.
Many have been left wondering if the rapid changes will affect their access to medical care, but Spokane Regional Health District said, at this time, there is no need to worry.
“There is information from professional organizations like the American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics and many others, so I want to reassure the community, we’re still focused on doing the work that needs to be done in Spokane. This doesn’t impact our flow,” said Dr. Velazquez of SRHD.
