SPOKANE, Wash. — A man suspected of a shooting and killing a 13-year-old in a drive-by in Spokane has been arrested in Montana.
25-year-old Glen Burkey was arrested around noon Wednesday by the Missoula Police Department in Montana and is currently in custody.
According to Missoula Police, officers discovered Burkey was a location on Clark Fork Lane and Mullan Road. SWAT arrived at the scene, used flashbangs, and Burkey surrendered.
Burkey is accused of killing Peperzak eighth-grader Gavin Looper at a home in Spokane’s Bemiss neighborhood early Saturday morning.
At a press conference Wednesday afternoon, Spokane Police Chief Kevin Hall applauded the Missoula Police’s involvement in this arrest and spoke about Spokane’s relationship with gun violence.
“Gun violence is killing our children,” Chief Hall said. “The community should be outraged. Our children are dying at the hands of gun violence.”

Chief Hall said in 2024, there were 100 separate shootings in Spokane which resulted in around 45 victims. He added that as gun violence increases, the age of victims is decreasing.
“I rarely hear about gun violence. Spokane has an issue with gun violence,” he said.
