PEND OREILLE COUNTY, Wash. — An inmate died and another hospitalized from a possible overdose at the Pend Oreille County Jail Monday.
According to the Newport Police Department, an inmate had to be airlifted to a Spokane hospital around 1 p.m. That inmate’s condition is unknown.
Hours later around 7 p.m., another inmate collapsed in the jail. The 33-year-old woman died at the scene despite CPR efforts.
The cause of death for the inmate will be determined by the Spokane County Medical Examiner at a later time.
Police say through the investigation a woman was suspected of bringing a controlled substance into the jail.
Officers arrested 32-year-old Natalie Lemery of Spokane for bringing a controlled substance into jail and controlled substance homicide.
