SPOKANE, Wash. — The family of a five-year-old girl killed in a head-on crash is still recovering from the collision. In the meantime, a local hockey team will be playing a benefit game to show their support for the family.
The Spokane Braves are raising money for the Carollo family Saturday night during its game against the Nelson Leafs.
The Carollo family has played a huge role in the Spokane hockey community. The Braves are hoping this game will help lift the family up and support them through this unimaginable tragedy.
Amanda and Patrick Carollo are still recovering from serious injuries from a car crash that happened while they were on their way to Patrick’s hockey game.
Doctors say it will take another eight weeks before Amanda will be able to walk again.
Even as injuries begin to heal, the Carollo family will still be recovering from the loss of Amelia, a little girl who loved cheering on her brother.
Amelia’s grandma Renee Siers said, “my grandson is doing really well. He’s healing and so his body is doing okay but we’re seeing some stuff with missing his mom and the trauma of being in the car with his sister.”
Siers said the benefit game will be a reminder of how much the hockey community has done for their family.
“We get to be with family, some of them we don’t even know but have been so previous in coming up with ways to support the family,” Siers said.
Braves Assistant Coach Jason Greenwell said he hopes the benefit game will be a chance for Patrick to feel like a kid again.
“We immediately put our heads together. A lot of moments of silence have happened and we just really wanted to do something that was big and bring the community together,” Greenwell said.
$5 from every ticket sold will go to the Carollo Family.
Siers says the driver responsible for the crash was recently indicted and charged with vehicular manslaughter. She hopes holding him accountable will give the family closure.
