SPOKANE, Wash. — The newly renovated Underhill Park sports courts have officially re-opened.
After two and a half months of construction, the park in East Central Spokane now has two new pickleball courts, two renovated basketball courts, new lighting and more.
“I think it’s really nice,” said Spokane resident Linda Mintun. “It looks so much better. The other basketball court was all bumpy and this is nice. We’ve thought about trying to play pickleball.”
Park goers were all smiles as they passed by the new sports courts.
“I like it. They are amenities that East Central can always use. We will see about the pickleball courts but I know the basketball kids will be lobing it because there are lots of them around here,” said John Lyons.
One woman said kids were always injuring themselves on the old deteriorated courts so she is excited for the renovations.
Spokane Parks and Recreation still plans to apply a colorful synthetic surfacing to the pickleball courts this spring.
It will also host a reopening celebration once that is installed.
