KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — Kootenai County election workers are ready to count ballots on Election Day.
The Kootenai County Elections Office said many people are stopping in to get advice on where and how to register to vote.
Election workers are also sorting through absentee ballots and preparing to process them as quickly as possible.
“People can still register to vote when they show up at their polling place, because Idaho offers same-day voter registration. So, that will also impact our turnout,” said Asa Gray, Kootenai County Elections Manager.
Kootenai County has a polling places look-up on it’s website with a list of polling places in the county.
Gray said Kootenai County expects 80-90% voter turnout at their precincts.
He said compiling the results after the polls close will take more time in Kootenai County than other Idaho counties because the ballots from Election Day have to be transported back to the elections office before they can be counted.
“I would expect that we will be here into the wee hours of the morning, getting those counted, but we will not stop counting. In fact, by state law, we are not allowed to stop counting until all ballots have been counted,” said Gray.
He said he expects the first round of results to be released around 8:30 p.m. on Election Night.
