CHEWELAH, Wash. — The Chewelah Police Department says a “misunderstanding” about a TikTok video led to schools in the town being closed Tuesday.
According to police, a person called Stevens County dispatch believing they had seen a TikTok threatening a shooting at Jenkin High School and the Chewelah School District.
This led to the district closing their campuses out of an abundance of caution.
Through the investigation, officers determined the person who reported the possible threat had misunderstood the video they had seen.
Police say the TikTok was likely talking about threat assessment and the likelihood schools in the area would be targeted by a shooting.
Chewelah Police says they do not believe there are any credible threats toward the district.
