SPOKANE, Wash. — A man facing charges of attempted murder made his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon.
Spokane Police say an officer was sitting at the intersection of S. F St. and W. Sunset Blvd. on August 11, 2024 around 9:00 p.m. when a car pulled up next to him. A man and a woman inside looked panicked, according to the officer. In charging documents filed with Spokane Superior Court, the officer described why the couple was so worried.
The man driving told the officer that he had pulled up to his brother’s apartment complex with his girlfriend in the area of W. 1st St. and S. Adams St. earlier. As his girlfriend was getting out of the car, the man said Isaiah Hutton walked toward them and lifted his grey, hooded sweatshirt to reveal a Glock handgun.
According to detectives, the couple scrambled back inside the car and took off. They said Hutton gave chase in another car, firing at the couple as he gave chase. The man said Hutton had fired so many shots, that he was sure he had emptied the gun’s entire magazine. The victims told police Hutton tried to run them off the road several times.
None of the bullets hit the victims’ car. Police said they did find numerous shell casings in the area.
The victims told police they believed Hutton targeted them because Hutton thought they called the police on him over a domestic violence incident the night before.
In addition to the domestic violence call on August 10, 2024, police uncovered another probable cause document dated August 7, 2024 in which he was accused of an assault charge for kicking someone in the face several times, knocking several teeth out of his victim.
Hutton was charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, drive-by shooting and aiming/discharging firearms, deadly weapons. He was held on $750,000 bail. His arraignment was set for September 17, 2024.
