PULLMAN, Wash. – Redshirt sophomore John Mateer was named the starting quarterback for the upcoming season, beating out Bryant transfer Zevi Eckhaus.
The announcement was made after practice Monday evening.
Mateer was better at taking care of the ball in the latter part of fall camp. He also made some great throws in a number of recent practices, which helped him win the job.
Mateer threw for 235 yards and rushed for 93 yards in 11 games last season. Now, he is the guy under center for the Cougars in 2024.
