SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash – The suspect in a deadly shooting Sunday in Spokane Valley came home and told his wife that he shot someone, according to documents filed in Spokane County Superior Court.
Detectives from the Spokane Valley Police arrested 43-year-old Marc Rinard on murder, assault and drive-by shooting charges Sunday afternoon.
According to Spokane Valley Police, a car stopped for a red light at Trent and Argonne and a black Dodge Ram pick-up truck pulled up beside it. Witnesses say the driver of the truck, identified as Rinard, started yelling at the other driver and passenger.
Deputies say Rinard fired a pistol at the driver, then took off.
SCSO said it doesn’t appear Rinard knew the person he’s accused of shooting.
The driver died at the scene; the passenger was not injured.
Several witnesses called 911 and gave the description of the truck and the license plate.
According to the statement of facts, Rinard’s wife told detectives he was “acting erratically” when he came home and was carrying his Glock pistol with an extended magazine.
She said he told her that police were coming “and that he had just shot someone.”
Rinard’s wife told detectives that she heard Rinard climb into the attic where she believed he hid his firearm.
When deputies arrived at the home, Rinard surrendered.
Investigators searched the home and found the gun in an attic space. The detective who questioned Rinard said he smelled strongly of alcohol and that his eyes were very red and watery.
According to the statement of facts, Rinard said he needed his anti-depressant medication and told them he would go through withdrawals in jail because he drank alcohol daily.
Detectives booked Rinard into the Spokane County jail on charges of second degree murder, drive-by shooting and assault.
Witnesses told detectives Rinard was driving erratically before the shooting, which may have led to the deadly altercation.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
