STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. —

As of 3:45 p.m. on August 19, level 2 (Get Set) evacuations remain in place for the Wicked Drive Fire burning between Highway 231 and Highway 291, near Corkscrew Canyon Road, according to Stevens County Fire District 1.
Fire officials updated the fire’s size from 200 acres to 750 acres on Sunday evening.
They said the cause of the fire was a lightning strike.
The fire continues to remain under control and 100% contained.
Update: 7:30 p.m., August 18
Evacuations were lowered for a 200-acre wildfire near Long Lake on Sunday evening.
Around 6 p.m. on August 18, evacuations were lowered to Level 2 (Get Set) for the Wicked Drive Fire burning between Highway 231 and Highway 291, near Corkscrew Canyon Road, according to Stevens County Fire District 1.
The level 2 evacuations are for any area within a third-mile of 5610 Corkscrew Canyon Road, according to Stevens County Emergency Management.
Stevens County Fire District 1 said the level 2 evacuations will remain in place overnight.
People in the evacuation area should be ready to leave at a moment’s notice.
Around 7 p.m. on Sunday, fire officials said the fire’s forward progression had been stopped and that the fire was 100% dozer-lined.
Crews will continue to mop-up the fire for the next few days.
Fire crews originally responded to the fire around 2 p.m. on Sunday and there were level 3 evacuations (Go Now) in place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Rapid wind shifts caused the fire to quickly spread from 20 acres to nearly 200 acres.
Firefighters are fighting the flames by air and ground.
