KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho – Dividing property to give to family members is about to get a lot easier thanks to a new ordinance that went into effect August 1.
Commissioners approved the Family Division ordinance last month. This ordinance allows property owners to divide unplotted land to give or sell to relatives in a more streamlined process.
Kootenai County community development director David Callahan said applicants for this new process must still meet requirements of other federal, state, or local agencies like fire districts, water districts and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The ordinance also limits the number of parcels a landowner can create through this process to four in their lifetime. Those parcels cannot be re-divided again through the same process.
More information on this ordinance can be found here.
