WASHINGTON- Today marks the final opportunity for candidates and voters in Washington to participate in the primary election, which will determine which contenders advance to the general election in November.
Among the most closely watched races this primary is the gubernatorial contest. The key candidates vying for your vote are:
Bob Furgeson: Democratic nominee and Washington’s current Attorney GeneralSemi Bird: Republican nominee who most recently served on the Richland School District’s School BoardDave Reichert: Republican nominee who is a former King County Sheriff and has served as the U.S. Representative for Washington’s 8th Congressional District.Mike Mullet: Democratic nominee and a State Senator representing the 5th Legislative District.
Locally, there are levies on the ballot that could impact your property taxes. Fire districts in Newman Lake, Deer Park, and Mead are asking for support from voters. Cities like Airway Heights are asking residents to support a property tax increase to support public safety efforts.
For those who have yet to register, you can still do so in person today until 8 p.m. Additionally, mailed ballots must be postmarked by today. Official ballot drop boxes will be open until 8 p.m.
Unofficial election results are expected to be available by 8:15 p.m. tonight, with the primary being officially certified on August 20th.
