OLYMPIA, Wash. – The two most well-known politicians in the race for the governor’s mansion in Washington will move on to the general election.
Bob Ferguson and Dave Reichert distanced themselves from the field of nearly 30 candidates running to replace Governor Jay Inslee.
With ballots still be counted across the state, the vote totals weren’t final Tuesday night, but the two were so far ahead of the pack, the Associated Press and others called the election.
As of Tuesday at 9 p.m., Ferguson had nearly 46% of the vote statewide; Reichert had nearly 28%.
Semi Bird, who the Washington GOP endorsed for the position, had less than 10% of the vote Tuesday night.
Ferguson is Washington’s current Attorney General, a position he’s held since 2018.
Reichert is a former King County Sheriff who also represented Washington’s 8th District in Congress from 2005 until 2019.
