Jelly Roll has made the transition from ex-convict to country star to cop. On Saturday (July 27), Jelly was officially sworn in as a deputy sheriff at the Genesee County Jail in Michigan. The singer was taking part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the jail, which opened up a music studio at the facility that will assist in the rehabilitation of future inmates. Detroit radio station WYCD was there to capture the ceremony on Instagram. “It is my honor to extend a deputy status, and he’s going to be sworn in today as a deputy sheriff for the county of Genesee, right here, in Flint, Michigan, with his own badge,” said Sheriff Christopher Swanson. “This is your badge, this is the real deal, you walk into any facility now, you can tell them you’re a deputy sheriff for Genesee County!” As part of his visit, Jelly performed to 15,000 music fans later that night at the Tailgate N’ Tallboys festival in Midland, Michigan.
